Dave and Bertha were married in Europe prior to immigrating to the United States in 1948. Dave had worked as a forester prior to World War II. Bertha worked as a nurse.

After coming to Mobile, Dave and Bertha owned and operated Maisel's Food Store at the corner of Texas Street and Rapier Avenue.

Dave died on May 23, 1979. Bertha died on February 15, 1983. They are both buried in Ahavas Chesed Cemetery in Mobile, Alabama.
