Joel Curtis Berger was born on May 2, 1966, in Mobile, Alabama. On August 14, 1994, he married Nicole "Nikki" Sard in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Nicole was born on June 14, 1966, in New York.

Joel graduated from Duke University with a degree in Finance. He received his MBA from Emory University. Joel owns Presentech, in Atlanta, a presentation development and design service.

Nikki graduated from Syracuse University, and currently serves as the Director of the Victim/Witness Assistance Program of the Fulton County District Attorney's Office.

Joel and Nikki currently reside in Atlanta, Georgia.
