Joseph "Joe" Maisel was born on January 9, 1893 in Minsk, Russia. He came to the United States in 1914 and living in New York prior to moving to Mobile, Alabama. On May 16, 1922, he married Annie Friedlander of Mobile, Alabama. She was born on September 22, 1900, in London, England.

Joe and Annie Maisel operated a grocery business in Mobile for many years.

Joe died in Mobile on November 3, 1976. Annie died in Mobile on January 30, 1986. Both are buried in Ahavas Chesed Cemetery in Mobile, Alabama.
