Michael Gordon Maisel was born in Mobile, Alabama, on July 6, 1950. He is divorced and has no children.

Michael graduated from the Ransom School in Coconut Grove, Florida, and received a degree in Marketing from the University of Georgia (Athens).

Michael was previously married to Vivian Topp and Carol Lynn Tucker.

Michael currently lives in south Florida where he is manager of Plastique and owner of Local Color.
