Ralph Tomases was born on November 25, 1920, in Wilmington, Delware. On October 24, 1943, he married Bernice Handelman in Wilmington, Delaware. Bernice was born on November 17, 1923, in Wilmington, Delaware.

Ralph attended the University of Delaware for pre-dental studies from 1938-1940. In 1943, he received his dental degree from Temple University School of Dentistry. From 1943 through 1946, Ralph served in World War II, as a Captain - Regimental Dental Surgeon, in the 423^rd Infantry Regiment, 06^th Infantry Division, US Army. Ralph was a POW in Germany from December 19, 1944, through April 23, 1945. He was discharged from the Army on March 25, 1946. Ralph has maintained a private dental practice in Wilmington since September of 1946. He has served as president of the Dental Society and as a member of the State Board of Dental Examiners.

Bernice is a housewife and has managed the finances of Ralph's dental practice.
