Stanley David Maisel was born in Mobile, Alabama, on April 8, 1954. He was single and had no children.

Stanley graduated from the Ransom School in Coconut Grove, Florida, after his junior year. He was a National Merit scholar and graduated in pre-med from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Stanley received his medical training in Kansas City and interned at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. After graduation, he moved to Atlanta, Georgia, where he established his medical practice.

Stanley died on February 21, 1990, and is buried in Atlanta, Georgia.
