Max Maisel was born on January 15, 1886, in Minsk, Russia. He came to the United States in _____(?) and lived in New York prior to moving to Mobile, Alabama. He was the first member of Yankle Beryl's family to move to Mobile, which he did soon after his cousins Max and Mike (sons of Abraham) moved to Mobile. While in Mobile, he operated a grocery business at Maple and Persimmon Streets. Max was responsible for getting several of the other members of the family to move to Mobile, and he helped get them established in the grocery business when they came to Mobile.

Max was a fairly notorious purveyor of liquor during prohibition, and, after having been warned by the police on several occasions to cease selling, and following word that the police were coming to arrest him, he quickly left Mobile and moved back to New York. Upon his return to New York, he went back to work for the Kalikows in the garment industry, and, eventually, with the help of the Kalikow's, he established a pants factory of his own in Belfast, Maine.

Max married Mosha Tarshis of _____________(?) on _______________(?). She was born on _________________(?), in ________________(?). Mosha died on ________________(?). Max later married Esther ___________(?) of________________(?) on ____________________(?). It was quite coincidental that Esther, years before, had been smuggled from Russia to Poland, with the assistance of Max's brother Louis.

In his later life, Max lived part of each year in Mobile and part in Maine. Max died in Mobile on April 7, 1965. He is buried in Ahavas Chesed Cemetery in Mobile, Alabama.
